Kidde Launches Residential Smoke Detector with 10-Year Battery in Brazil
Kidde Brasil has launched a new detector line with 10-year, sealed battery-powered smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, an innovation that provides a new level of residential protection. Kidde is a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products and a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The easy-to-install alarms feature a sealed-in lithium battery, which operates 24 hours a day for 10 years. Upon its end of life, the smoke alarm will chirp to signal that it needs to be replaced. It is certified by the Underwriters Laboratories of the United States, which certifies products for their safety.
"The new Kidde detector series is one of the best and most practical ways to help protect families against fire and carbon monoxide," said Roberta Godoy, marketing manager, Kidde.
The new Kidde line includes models designed for each room in the home:
- Living area and bedroom - The photoelectric sensor detects the presence of smoke and emits a beep as a warning sound.
- Hallways and stairways - The addition of an intense LED light helps people find hallways and stairs.
- Kitchen and laundry - The alarm provides extra protection from carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that can be fatal.
A working combination or carbon monoxide alarm is the only safe way to detect carbon monoxide, which is often referred to as the "silent killer." Carbon monoxide can be produced by burning any type of fossil fuel: gasoline, propane, natural gas, oil and wood. Potential sources include cars, heating systems, furnaces, stoves, gas-powered clothes dryers, water heaters, certain pool heaters or any fuel-burning appliance.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include a mild headache, nausea, vomiting and fatigue for slight exposure; a strong headache with throbbing, dizziness, confusion and rapid heartbeat at medium exposure; and fainting, convulsions, cardiac failure and death for severe exposure. If carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected, call a doctor immediately.
