This Earth Day, Carrier employees celebrated the announcement that its world headquarters, the Center for Intelligent Buildings, is the first commercial building in Florida to earn LEED® Platinum v4 certification from the U.S. Green Building Council®.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, with nearly 35,000 LEED-certified buildings globally. At this time, LEED Platinum under the newer and more stringent version 4 certification has only been achieved by 68 commercial buildings in the world, and just 23 in the United States.
Carrier kicked off a day full of celebration with an unveiling ceremony, where it revealed the building’s newest hardware – its new LEED plaque, followed by a lunchtime panel discussion focused on the future of green buildings. The interactive panel featured panelists from the U.S. Green Building Council, HuntonBrady Architects and Carrier.
In the spirit of Earth Day – and its 2019 theme “Protect our Species” – the day capped off with an employee 5K in support of Loggerhead Marinelife Center, a local organization committed to the research and rehabilitation of Loggerhead turtles in Palm Beach County. Nearly 100 employees participated in the race to benefit the non-profit.
